Woodworm can cause huge problems if left untreated.

Premier Contractors were invited to send qualified surveyors to look at a possible infestation of woodworm in a listed building in Nottingham.

We were contacted by Bonsers, one of the UK’s leading building restoration and conservation experts.

Premier have teams of highly-trained specialists with unrivalled experience in the crucial area of swift identification of problems and advising on the optimum solution.

There are several different types of woodboring beetle and it is crucial that the correct diagnosis is established in order to undertake the correct and effective treatment.

The first sign of woodworm is usually the appearance of tiny holes in timbers, with live infestations showing powder, known as Frass, around the holes.

The holes vary in size but are typically 1mm to 1.5mm in diameter for the most common household species. Adult beetles which emerge from the wood might also be found in the summer months.

Adult beetles lay eggs on, or just under, the surface of timbers. The resulting grubs feed on the wood causing both structural and cosmetic damage.

Having identified the correct procedure, we began by spraying several parts of the timbers with insecticidal fluid. Unfortunately, some areas are already beyond repair and will need to be replaced with new treated timbers.

At the same time, Premier staff are stripping all the walls so that damp works can be undertaken to guard against future issues.

Premier Contractors have unrivalled experience of finding and fixing woodworm infestations.
