When Other Waterproofing Failed, it was Time for the Experts

Type A waterproofing had been “installed” by other companies but had failed. Premier were called in to fix the problem.

We were informed that numerous companies had applied a Type A waterproofing system to the walls and floors where hydrostatic pressure had been noted.

Our CSSW-qualified surveyor quickly identified the issue, dismissing the previous contractor’s claim that condensation was the issue.

The problem was water ingress, the first task being to disperse water from the property.

TYPE A WATER PROOFING

Type A waterproofing involves material being put in place to provide a barrier to water ingress. The main aim of a Type A waterproofing systems is to keep the space it is applied to dry.

The engineered slab in this period barn was impossible to cut into so Premier proposed the installation of a Sacrificial Screed, which manages the water away from the building.

Next, a waterproofing system specifically designed to suit the needs of the building was designed and installed. As NSBC specialist installers, we recommended the installation of a Newton Cavity Drained Membrane System.

To finish, the floor was overlaid with a Newton Fibran Insulation and waterproofing membrane.

The system was fully tested and rated highly effective.\

The work was undertaken to meet BS 8102: 2009 Code of Practice, which states that as the structure is to be used for habitable space to the occupants, it must be the highest Grade 3 specification.
